HOUSEWIFE OR CAREER WOMAN

             Mother is like the heart of family. This comparison means that mother has an important role in a family. When a married woman has children, she will face the hard situation where she has to decide whether she will be a housewife or a career woman. Making decision of this problem is not as simple as we know. Should she become a career woman who can earn money? Or should she become a housewife who can take care of her children in house? Generally, both career woman and housewife have similar role in family. However, they have some vast differences in reasons of making decision, their activities, personality and also pattern of parenting their children.

                Comparing both housewife and career woman, we know that they have similar role. Each of them is a wife and also a mother. As a wife, she has to do the duty of wife. She must serve her husband’s need, obey and respect him as a husband. She does all of them for the harmony and also happiness of household. Besides, as a mother, she fights for her children’s lives since they were in the womb until they become adults. She must take care of their children, educate them, give them affection and have to know their characters. Both housewife and career woman have important role as a wife and a mother in family.

                The obvious difference between housewife and career woman is their reasons for making decision. An increasing number of women are holding the view that they should be career woman instead of being housewives. They think that they should reach their dream jobs and self-actualization. Sometimes, they need to have pride in their own qualities or achievements. They need to gain the respect or avowal of other people. Another reason is economic factor. In this situation, if a career woman does not earn money, she will face difficulties or even cannot fulfill the need of her family. However, some women still prefer to be a housewife. She wants to spend more time with family, take care of her husband and her children. It is because she has adequate or even overwhelming income of her family. Therefore she does not need to earn money. Besides, the husband’s prohibition on getting job can be another reason to be a housewife.

                Beyond the difference of reasons, housewife and career woman have difference of activities. For a housewife, the centre in her life is the family. Her life revolves around her family. She would be doing housework and taking care of her husband and children all the time. For example sweep floor, wash clothes or dishes, cook food, bake cookies, etc. On the contrary, a career woman will have to pay more attention to her job. She will have more interaction with other people at work. She has no time to travel with her husband, to play with her children or to have dinners with her parents.

 In terms of personality, according to Research Paper of Study Mode 2010, housewife and career woman have differences. A housewife might be very meek, gentle and mild. She can always reach every aspect of a matter. It is kind of her to deal with all troubles in the family. While a career woman has a stronger personality. She might be a perfectionist. When handling some affairs or encountering some difficulties, she would never allow herself to give up and she would always try her best to solve the problems.

The other difference is the pattern of parenting children. Career women tend to need other people’s help. A career woman has more activities without her family. Therefore, most of career women need other people who can handle their affairs at home such as doing housework and caring for their children. Sometimes, their parents in law can help to handle it. They also think that the solution is find caregiver or babysitter who can take care of their children. In addition, they need private teacher who can help their children in learning process. Conversely, housewives tend to handle all affairs of family by themselves. They spend more time in the house with family. They can focus on taking care of their children. They can educate the children directly, teach them or play together. They can give more attention for their children physically and also mentally.     

            Although housewife and career woman are similar, both are different in some aspects. From those differences, woman should consider about deciding the best choice for her life. We cannot guarantee whether housewife is better than career woman or career woman is better than housewife. I think both of the choices are acceptable. It depends on their attitudes towards life.
