Windows vs Linux : The True Battle of Computer’s Operating System

Nowadays, the development of computer technology unsparable from the development of computer’s operating system. There are many operating system that have created such as windows, linux, unix, sun, etc. However, the two most famous operating system are windows and linux. As the main player in operating system market, both of them have some similarities and differences.

Let’s take a look closer with both operating system by placing two computers in front of us. After that, just try to install windows(7/8) in a computer and install linux (ubuntu 14) in the other one. We will find that the duration of installation for both of them are almost the same. The longest time to install it is just around one hour. Besides, whether it is coincidence or not, some commands in windows and linux are the same such as the command for making a directory in windows we use “mkdir” and also in linux, the command to delete a file are also the same in both system “rmdir”.

Many IT experts stated, even though there are some similarities between windows and linux, but actually there are many contrasts inside them. We can see it from license aspect, linux is open source operating system. It means this system is open for all user and free. As the user, we can also develop linux’s system. In other side, windows is close source operating system. It means you have to pay to get the serial number and some additional features. The user cannot freely edit windows system because microsoft as the only one developer of this system has a copyright.

In Indonesia itself, there are not much people that use linux as their operating system. Just some people that really interests on studying IT. One cause that make this situation happen is there are many applications that can “running well” in windows, but not the same in linux. Even though some application developers makes the special application for linux. It cannot change the fact that in Indonesia windows is more popular rather than linux.

Smart people are people who can utilize the development of technology wisely. Windows and linux are the pioneer of the development computer’s operating system in the future. Both of them are the best and have uniquenesses in their system.
