Indonesia is on the 25th rank among 70 countries with the best English learning. Meanwhile, Malaysia and Singapore are on the 11th and 12th rank. It obviously represents that Indonesia is in the low rank among South East Asia countries. Indonesia should be more apprehensive about it. Based on that result, Indonesian government should pay more attention towards English learning in Indonesia in order to enhance our international industries in economy business, entertainment, and tourism.
English is the most useful language in the world. The benefits of learning English for Indonesian is to increase our human resources. English can help us to learn, communicate, and advance our career. Indonesia is known as one of the poor country with bad economy system and it is quite difficult for Indonesia to compete with other countries. If Indonesian businessman can use English well, they will be able to cooperate with other countries and it makes our economy better. If Indonesian businessman cannot speak or understand English well, how do they will be able to cooperate with foreign countries?
In entertainment industry, as we know that we can count one or two celebrities in Indonesia who can enter international market. At least, they can be a nominee in some international awards. For example, Agnez Mo can make her first international album in America and got some international awards because she is talented and hard-working, we should admit that she speaks English fluently. Let us imagine if our talented celebrities could break through international entertainment, how proud we are of them and we automatically will respect them.
Beside the benefit for economy and entertainment, English learning also affect tourism development. Indonesia has many beautiful tourism sites. Unfortunately, Indonesian cannot develop our quality of tourism and one of that factor is our lack of English. Many villagers in Indonesia cannot speak English. That will make the tourists uncomfortable when they try to communicate with local people in Indonesia. Besides, when tourists want to buy something in Indonesia, they will not understand if the traders cannot speak English.
If Indonesian English skills are developed Indonesia will have more opportunities to be more popular around the world, in economy business, entertainment, and even in tourism. Indonesia will completely compete with some modern countries such as America, Japan, Singapore and many others. It will make Indonesia as well-known country after all. All Indonesian societies are recommended to learn English, practice it in daily life, start learning it from the basic, so that little by little they will be accustomed to speak English fluently.
